Concord
- Harrisburg Cabarrus County is located just 20 minutes north of uptown Charlotte and can be distinguished by tree-lined streets, new neighborhoods, historic homes and modern shopping. Once a rural county focusing primarily on farming and textiles, Cabarrus County is now part of Charlotte's metropolitan area and is facing tremendous growth because of its proximity to uptown Charlotte. In fact, the Charlotte Motor Speedway is located in Concord, the county seat of Cabarrus. The city of Concord was founded in 1796 on a 26-acre site. The city derived its name due to a disagreement over where the city should be located, hence the name Concord (harmony) was chosen to reflect the compromise which settled the issue. Concord is home to a variety of new housing developments and shopping malls, including Concord Mills, a 1.5-million-squarefoot retail and entertainment megacomplex. Other Concord highlights include the Reed Gold Mine, the Cabarrus Art Guild, the Old Courthouse Theater, Concord Memorial Gardens, the Concord Regional Airport and the Rocky River Gold Course. Harrisburg is another vital part of Cabarrus County. No matter what your taste or budget, you'll find several housing options from older homes to ranches, to condominiums.
