Weddington
- Waxhaw Weddington, once a rural community, is now considered suburban Charlotte. The expansion of interstate I-485 has brought even more growth to the area. Weddington is mostly a residential area. You'll find both new construction as well as older homes in Weddington. In the center of town is Weddington Corners shopping center. The Sisky Family YMCA is less than one mile from Union County and offers a large variety of family oriented programs including a pool, water park, aerobic center, jogging track and fitness and wellness centers. Waxhaw gets its name from the Indian tribe which once lived in the area. When the railroad expanded in the 1880s, Waxhaw's growth prospered. Tracks still run through the center of town. In the 1960s, with a slump in the cotton industry, Waxhaw began building its now thriving antique centers and gift shops. Waxhaw has some restaurants worthy of a try including The Sanctuary and Dearstyne's Bistro. The town also has a summer outdoor drama series and plenty of community activities all year round.
